Still Alive… Winter Quarter Update

February 1st, 2010

I apologize about this being the first post in nearly three months, everybody. I hope the quarter is going well for all of you and that your holiday break was good as well.

- Heisman, Tony V. and myself will be turning in the funding application to Student Life tomorrow. We’re asking for a lot to be allocated, but we’re confident we’ll get awarded what we’re asking for… this includes new balls, a portion of the jersey cost paid for, and all of the miscellaneous travel expenses to the National Tournament trip to Bowling Green, OH.

- Speaking of which… the NCDA National Tournament is at Bowling Green State University this year. It will be taking place on April 10th and 11th, which is the second weekend of Spring term. I’ve already spoken to many of you about the tournament trip, but again, keep that weekend open if you’re interested in coming.

- Depaul’s Invisible Children chapter is holding a charity dodgeball tournament on Friday, February 26th at 6:30 up on courts 3 and 4 at the Ray. I’ll start taking down names and teams on Monday. The cost per team is $15, and the tournament is 5 on 5. All funds will be going to children in need in Uganda.

Keep it real everyone… see you tomorrow night.

(Oh… the “Trash Talk” box has been removed due to some tool misusing it.)

Happy Belated Halloween + News

November 3rd, 2009

Hey everyone,

I hope you all had a good Halloween. DePaul Dodgeball’s annual Halloween costume night took place last night, and by all accounts it was a great time. Expect more insanity to insue throughout the year, costumes or not.

First and foremost, I would like to apologize for not being around much recently. I’ve had to focus on some personal stuff, mostly school/academic things, that have forced me to miss dodgeball nights more than I would like. Expect more of me next term though!!!

Some big news on Nationals… due to pressure from the NCDA head honchos and not much movement on the planning front, it has been determined by myself and other team captains that we won’t be able to host the National Tournament this year. As much fun as it would be, it’s just too big of a headache for the club, especially considering that it would likely have to be held at another site off campus. That would be lame. So, in all likelihood, GVSU will again be hosting this year.

However, that is not to say that we will not be having any other matches or tournaments here. There is a high probability that we will end up hosting a few matches or a small tournament sometime in the winter, but plans need to be hashed out. Keep posted on that.

Currently, Tony V. is really starting to get jersey stuff in the works. We have it pretty much pinned down what company we’re going to work through, and we’re likely going to be buying basketball… yes, basketball… style jerseys (shorts and tops). They are gonna look pretty B.A. when it’s all said and done, and we’re likely going to have sponsorship emblems on them as well. Look forward to that stuff, and once more news is in about prices and sizes, I’ll let ya’ll know.

With finals just around the corner, I would like to wish all of you happy studying. The last dodgeball of the quarter will take place on Thursday, November 19th. Until them, business as usual.

Aaaah, We’re Back…

September 19th, 2009

DePaul Dodgeball is now in full swing. Familiar faces, lots of solid action, and as always, tons of headshots. We play all year long (when not on break or during finals) on Mondays and Thursdays @ 9:30. Come join us.

We’re likely to hold a campus wide recreational tournament in mid-October. It will probably fall on the week of October 19th, and take place over the following three dodgeball nights. We are likely to have Student Government Association, the Inter-Fraternity Council and Pan-Hellenistic Society help promote the event with us, and send all proceeds of the tournament to a charity. More info to come as we know it.

September 13th, 2009

The first night of dodgeball was a successful one… but there’s even more where that came from. We’re expecting an amazing turnout tomorrow night due to great promotion at the Involvement Fair and Real Life Recess this weekend. You are not gonna want to miss Monday night dodgeball… there will easily be over 100 people.

Again, tomorrow night, Monday, Sept. 14th, @ 9:30 PM at the Ray Meyer Fitness Center on Court 4. Try to show up a little early to sign a waiver/release form.

Thanks to all who visited us this weekend. See you there.

September 8th, 2009

Welcome back, everybody.

NOTE: If you could show up roughly 15-20 minutes early to sign waiver forms for this year, that would be wonderful. What up everybody,

DePaul Dodgeball is officially on it’s annual summer hiatus. We’ll be back during the first week of classes during the 2009-2010 Fall quarter, with a tentative date of Thursday, Sept. 10th serving as our inaugural night for the academic year.

As far as the summer goes, there will be lots of investigations and plans being made in relation to next year’s NCDA National Championship. Also, for you incoming freshmen, there will be occasional days of posting flyers and visiting the freshmen orientations outside of Seton Hall. Stay posted.

And finally… here’s the first version of the Fall promotional video for the club! Enjoy.

It’s a way-of-life, kids.

Nationals 2010 + News

May 20th, 2009

As some of you well know, there’s been a lot going on regarding the ‘10-’11 academic year for DePaul Dodgeball. But first thing’s first… we’ve informally elected our E-Board for next schoolyear, and we’ve got a lot more people helping out. I’m retaining my position as president, Tony V. will be Vice President, Luke Mockaitis is secretary, Kevin Lange and Vegim Begolli are the treasurers, Bryan the Mouth and Champ are taking care of promotions and advertising, and Ziggy and Alec are general associates. There’s still lots of room for help, so come to me if you wanna be involved.

On to more important things… We met with our Student Life Liaison, Mark Manderino, and our Club Sports Director, Lisa Hanson, yesterday regarding the NCDA National Tournament. As noted before, a lot of hoops are going to have to be jumped through, and a lot of hardwork is going to be put in… but as of right now plans are being made for DePaul Dodgeball to host the NCDA Tournament. More news to come on this, but it’s definitely becoming more of a reality the more we figure things out.

I’ll also have news about next fall’s campus-wide student tournament soon. Additionally, Tony V. is taking care of the jerseys for next year. Please contact me if you want one and plan on playing in matches next year.

EDIT: Just an FYI, the Ray is closed next Monday, which unfortunately means no dodgeball. If enough people are interested, we could play outside on the Oz or Jonquill Park tennis courts, but either way no dodgeball at the Ray on Memorial Day.

Post Mid-Term Update

May 16th, 2009

It’s been awhile ya’ll. Since we came home from “Nashonals” everything has been relatively low key, with nothing but regular dodgeball nights at the Ray goin’ down. However, there are several updates in relation to the 2009-2010 academic year that you guys should know about, especially…

- If everything goes according to plan, and we pull a bunch of strings… WE’RE HOSTING THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE DODGEBALL ASSOCIATION’S POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT AT DEPAUL NEXT YEAR!!!
After much deliberation and discussion, DePaul Dodgeball has decided that it is in our best interest as a club and member of the NCDA to play host for this tournament, and we already have some very grand ideas. We’re holding a meeting with Student Life this upcoming Tuesday to discuss the major issues and problems we’ll encounter with hosting it here at DePaul, but we’re confident we’ll be able to pull it off. We’re gonna need a lot of help with this, with everything from referees to sponsorships, so if you wanna help in any capacity let us know.

- Also, there are FINALLY plans for a campus wide dodeball tournament being held next fall as a promotional fundraising event. The format will hopefully end up being a 64 team tournament (like March Madness) with 5 man teams. There will also hopefully be a loser’s bracket, since we’re only going to be playing one game matches, but either way, it’s gonna be a great event for the campus and DePaul Dodeball. Stay tuned for more.

- To those of you who are or plan on being regulars next year… we’re getting ACTUAL jerseys. This is gonna happen sometime in the early fall, so contact me if you want one and plan on being a match/tournament roster.

- We’re shooting a promotional video for recruitment purposes in the fall quarter!!! We’re trying to have footage captured every Monday and Thursday night, so if you wanna own someone on camera and be in our advert, come on out. We’ll be showing this video at all our promotional events next fall, and also post it on the website.

- And finally… our good friend Brendan Leahy recently shot and directed a short video for the “We Are DePaul” contest. Our club is shown shortly in his video, so check it out here.

Hope to see you all on Monday at 9:30 (as always) for the shoot!!!

Nationals Recap (steve nashonals?)

April 8th, 2009

This past weekend, we drove to Michigan to participate in this year’s National Dodgeball Championship (yeah, it’s only Midwest schools, but that’s what it’s called). DePaul went 1-2 on Day 1, defeating the JV team of Michigan State and losing to the eventual #2 and #3 teams of the weekend, Saginaw Valley State and Ohio State. We got in our two games on Sunday, against Western Kentucky and MSU JV (again), the latter of which turned into a crazy mashup of DePaul, MSU, GVSU, SVSU, Wisconsin-Platteville, referees, and a few stray animals playing a few games. The weekend was a blast, though I’m not sure everyone has completely recovered from it.

We really want to thank Grand Valley for hosting and putting together a top-notch tournament with few snags/things to complain about; we know it was hard, especially with schools dropping out, and you made it a fun experience for us. We would also like to thank our best good friends at Michigan State, who graciously housed our team for the weekend and partook in various debauchery with us. You guys are the greatest, and we would absolutely love for you to come to Chicago sometime soon.

Dodgeball presses forward, Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30. We may be experimenting in a few variations of dodgeball inspired by the weekend, including “Gladiator Dodgeball” from this weekend. Hilarity and awesomeness ensue.

See you on the courts,

- Nash

P.S.: Did anyone see this when it was up two years ago? This is the first I saw of it. Cracked me up.
