CHI 2010

Chicago Hat Invitational

Hosted by DePaul Dodgeball in Chicago, IL

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Venue:

Ray Meyer Fitness Center & Recreation Center
2235 N. Sheffield Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614

Courts 3 & 4, Room 312

Entrance fee: $1 per person - All participants must sign a non-member access waiver as required by the University.

Gameplay Format:

  • A double elimination tournament.
  • Teams are decided in a random fashion; each player's name is put on a slip of paper and that paper is put in a hat. Team members are then chosen randomly out of that very hat.
  • Teams nominate a Captain within their team members, mainly to organize the team for their matches.

Two 20 Minute halves per match, DePaul Rules. Mainly, catches do not result in an out for the thrower, unless the catcher's team jail is empty. No shot clock.

Exhibition matches between teams could be arranged in between tournament matches. Alternatively, a free-for-all skills competition could be arranged if the people want it more than exhibitions.

Operation:

Particpants sign a waiver at the top of the stairs. They pay their $1 and write their name down on a slip of paper for the hat picking.
Everyone should throw their stuff in room 312, this will be the ops center for the tournament. All gatorade and food must remain in that room, water is the only drink allowed on the courts.
Ball runners must be present in the gaps between court 2 and 3.

Officating Staff:
At least three officials would be ideal per game. One head referee, and two assisting referees handling thier respective sides.
Zigmas "Zigmister" Maloni, Kevin "Champ" Hill, Troy "Big Dix"on, Luke "Knucklepuck", David "Spaceman", Brandon "Not Brian", Mario "Mario", Brian Wienert

Food:

5 cases of Gatorade and 1 case of Aquafina water will be provided by DePaul on behalf of Pepsi.
We are working on pizza... pizza for all. Not a nationals pizza situation. It will most likely be served after the tournament or towards the end.
Search "food loc: Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center, Chicago, IL 60614" on Google Maps for more great local places.

Hotel:

Holiday Inn - $109 - 5300 Touhy Ave, Skokie 60077 - 847.679.8900 This is about a 15 minute drive to DePaul's Lincoln Park campus (LPC)

Comfort Inn - North Shore - $89 - 9333 Skokie Blvd, Skokie - 630.957.7106 About 25 min. Register here to get the rate.

Your welcome to look into your own rates. Here's a bunch of places with a DePaul rate. Just make sure you ask about a DePaul rate when you register.

Some members of the DePaul Dodgeball Society are also offering limited space in their own apartments near campus. We remember how good MSU was to us in letting us stay at their places for Nationals 2009, so we could do maybe 10 or more people, if they're in the need.

Parking:

Street parking bordering any part of DePaul's campus is non permit, other parts are either metered or labeled as permit. You can park in a permit space anytime between 7am to 6pm. There is also a parking garage down the street. You cannot park in the church parking lot, which is across the street from the Ray! It will be blocked off and you will be towed.
